History Is Our Greatest Teacher

Sun Jan 18, 2004, 12:57 AM
(This is a Special account created by masonice)

I believe that We must watch and study the great artists of our time.
In order to do so, we must have some nice, high quality, unpainted, examples of theyre works, sort of like an online museum, but inside our deviantart community. Since I have found none, I have created this.

Here are some of My favorite Italian Artists From the 15th Century and Some information about them.

VERROCCHIO
Andrea del Verrocchio (c. 1435-1488 ), perhaphs a pupil of Donatello, Became the leading 15th-century Florentine sculptor. Apprenticed to his bottega were Perugino, Leonardo and Lorenzo di Credi, who worked on comissions from the Medici.

POLLAIUOLO
Antonio Pollaiuolo (c. 1432-1498 ), Florentine sculptor, painter, engraxer and goldsmith, had one of the most famous 15th-century bottegas. Perhaps the best known are his drawings and engravings of nudes which are among the earliest and finest of anatomical drawings.

LEONARDO
Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519) was apprenticed to Andrea Verrocchio. He is considered with Raphael and Michelangelo, one of the creators of the High Renaissance. A large corpus of drawings evidences Leonardo's intense interest in the limitless variety of human physique and physiognomy.

MICHELANGELO
Michelangelo Buonarroti ( 1475-1564 ) was, with Leonardo and Raphael, a creator of the High Renaissance in sculpture, and the single most influential painter in the development of Mannerism.

SIGNORELLI
Luca Signorelli (c. 1441/ 50-1523) was probably a pupil of Perugino. His drawings however, reflect the exaggeratedly muscular figures of the Pollaiuoli brothers and forecast Michelangelo's dramatic nudes.

PIERO
Piero di Cosimo (1462-1521), a Florentine student of Verrocchio, was later influenced by Leonardo and Signorelli. Primarily he painted scenes based upon mythology, such as Ariadne (?) Deserted.

PERUGINO
Pietro Vannucci, called Preugino (1445-1523), was probably a pupil of Piero della Francesca, later studying with Verrocchio. The stance in "A Music-Making Angel"(which I will upload later) combines with an air of classic serenity which presaged the works of his pupil, Rapheal.

RAPHAEL
Raffaello Sanzio, Known as Raphael (1483-1520), although he died at age thirty-seven, was acknowleged as the equal of Leonardo and Michelangelo. A pupil of Perugino, Raphael was later incluenced by Leonardo. His most renowned paintings are the series of Madonnas, the Vatican Stanze, the decorations of Villa Farnesina and the Sistine Madonna.

Here are Some of Artists that I actually know:
